The team from CSIR Citizens Information Services (CSIR CIS) has been involved in research, development and implementation (RDI) of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in the African development context since 1994. We specialize in developing software tools (inTouch Africa®) as well as deployment and sustainability models (Infopreneurs®) to support the (economic) development of local communities. Our current focus is on the application of both technology and deployment models in the context of Rural Enterprise and Economic Development (REED).
Together with colleagues at the CSIR and Meraka Institute as well as a range of co-workers in various institutions, we are striving to contribute to the eradication of poverty in (specifically) rural communities through ‘social’ enterprise establishment and the appropriate use of ICTs.
At CSIR CIS, we are convinced of the potential and dignity of all people and therefore believe in putting people first. We are also convinced of the value of a solid work ethic and believe in ‘development through enterprise’. We therefore strive to stimulate ‘social’ enterprise through our actions, products, services and attitude.
